Looking at live phytoplankton samples is the best part of doing my PhD, dead plankton is cool, live plankton is blooming (boom boom) amazing! I have a sheet where I note down which species I have seen and relatively how abundant they are, this helps a lot when 2 months down the line I am sweating profusely staring at another round blob under the microscope - WHAT ARE YOU?! So far for this tank I have - 'lots of very fast things'. This is a particularly energetic bunch - there must be something in the water ...
